Regional Sales Director

Job Overview

Provide hands-on sales and marketing direction and support to the property Director of Sales and General Managers for assigned NHS managed hotels. Develop revenue generation strategies and objectives to drive measurable, incremental revenue and market share. Work with individual hotel teams to identify skill development areas, coordinate sales efforts, marketing resources, and uncover new opportunities for future business growth. Frequently track and measure performance of sales and/or marketing initiatives in area of responsibility. Ensure the proper team is in place to fulfill goals and objectives.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and approve of the annual marketing plans, along with the sales and revenue strategies for each hotel, ensuring that the goals meet the property annual budget expectations

  • Strategically support and motivate the property sales teams to seek new sources of business

  • Coach and mentor all sales associates and ensure that effective processes are in place for recruitment, induction, training and development of all sales team members

  • Spot Sales talent within the organization and develop it for future increased responsibility, and encourage the internal movement of sales team members around the country and between hotels

  • Assist in addressing sales performance issues at hotels in a supportive, timely and decisive manner

  • Ensure that all sales people have clear and realistic targets for revenue generated sales activities including appointments conducted, accounts retained, and booking goals achieved

  • Ensure that performance is reviewed on a regular basis, recognizing and celebrating success, and refocusing effort where targets are missed

  • Ensure that appropriate skills and training is available to all sales team members in conjunction with NHS and associated hotel brand training programs

  • Partner with VP of Sales and Marketing, General Managers, Directors of Sales, Revenue Management, and Regional Operations Directors to evaluate the sales situation of each hotel, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, its market opportunities and threats, its target market segments and accounts, and drive individual action plans for higher sales performance

  • Ensure that active and major accounts are managed by an appropriate sales professional, and develop key account management amongst sales team to increase NHS’s market value

  • Conduct consistent and timely meetings with DOS/GM in person or via telephone

  • Take necessary steps to ensure hotels meet or exceed revenue and market share goals

  • Conduct quarterly sales training sessions with DOS/GM

  • Review and manage quarterly variance revenue report along with action plans to achieve goals

  • Effectively communicate sales activities and marketing initiatives with VP of Sales and Marketing and Regional Director of Operations for assigned locations

  • Actively participate in all Revenue Management meeting/calls for each hotel on a bi-weekly basis

  • Follow and monitor hotel room rates on a continuous basis and make any changes or adjustments as needed

  • Coordinate and facilitate all direct sales initiatives and marketing support for all new hotel openings

  • Develop a sales and marketing plan for each new hotel

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must be able and willing to travel extensively throughout the country where assigned properties are located. Although this position may be home based, property visits during the week, in person, to conduct meetings and joint sales activities with the individual property sales teams, is critical.

  • 10+ years of sales and hotel management experience required

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment

  • Ability to shift and manage multiple priorities

  • The ability to actively manage the expectations that hotels place on the regional sales function, and report back on results and performance

  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication

  • Ability to create highly motivated and performing sales teams

  • Ability to travel weekly across the country as needed

  • Experience in facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, and demonstrated ability to lead and manage others through influence, collaboration and consensus building

  • Excellent negotiating and interpersonal skills with strong self-motivation

  • Ability to analyze current environments, create a compelling business solution, coupled with great influencing skill to present the findings and propose recommendations to improve current business

  • Sensitivity and ability to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information, protect the assets of the Company, act with ethics and integrity, and adhere to the Company’s Code of Conduct and policies and procedures

  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment when performing job duties and display a high degree of integrity, professionalism and respect

  • Results driven focus and ability to work through to completion in a timely manner

  • Adaptable to change

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include, but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook
